Expressing his “concern” over repeated incidents of mob lynching, Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Syed Ahmed Bukhari on Monday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, seeking deliberation to “allay the uneasiness” prevalent in the Muslim community.

“Gullible Muslims, trading cattle on crossroads, are murdered by the organised mobs of gaurakshaks involved in mob violence, in full view of the people. Deprived of any strict action on such atrocities, only tears have become the fate of the hapless Muslims,” Bukhari wrote in his letter.
On Monday, Bukhari also wrote to Congress president Rahul Gandhi seeking his intervention as leader of the main Opposition party to pressurise the government to take immediate steps in the matter.
“Muslims suffer from an extreme sense of deprivation. Pacifying the youth is becoming difficult. How far can we stop them from astray in the face of such atrocities?,” his letter to Gandhi said.
