Skywalks to connect DU’s south campus colleges with metro stations, railway station

The 800-metre-long foot over bridge (FOB) will connect colleges in the area with the Durgabai Deshmukh South Campus metro station of upcoming Pink Line of the Delhi Metro.

According to the plan, the bridge will pass through the Metro station and will end at Chanakyapuri Metro station at San Martin Marg.

“We have started the construction and will complete it within a year. There is a slight delay as we need no-objection certificates (NOC) from the Railways for the landing point of the FOB. We need space near the Chanakyapuri railway station so that the FOB can end there,” said an official of the Public Works Department (PWD), which is executing the project.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is constructing another FOB with the facility of walkalators connecting the South Campus Metro station with Dhaula Kuan station of the Airport Line. This will help students and other commuters reaching other parts of the city and pedestrians can go to the airport line using the same FOB.

“There is a lot of pedestrian movement in the area and with many colleges and eating joints; a person is always taking risk by crossing the road. The FOB will also help them in crossing the busy ring road as our FOB will pass through the Metro station,” the official added.

“The upcoming station is 800 metres away from the existing stations so it cannot be called an interchange station. But considering people would want to take the Airport Line, both the stations will be connected with walkaltors or travelators so that passengers carrying heavy luggage won’t have to walk,” said a senior official of DMRC.

Walkalators were introduced at the Terminal 3 of Delhi airport to facilitate passengers since they had to walk a lot.
