Student attacked for standing up against sister’s stalker in Delhi’s Govindpuri

The stalker, who had been harassing the woman for the past one-and-a-half years was among the four who attacked the student.

A 20-year-old BA second-year student was allegedly attacked with a knife by four youths for protesting against the stalker of his sister. The attackers are all in their twenties.

The crime took place late on Wednesday night at the victim family’s home in south Delhi’s Govindpuri. The attackers allegedly also verbally abused the student’s mother when she tried to stop them from entering her house. The prime accused allegedly wanted to meet and speak to the victim’s sister. All the four were drunk when they forcibly entered the house, entered into an argument with the family members, and attacked the man, said police.

Romil Baaniya, DCP (southeast), said, “A case of house trespass, physical assault and insulting the modesty of a woman was registered against them at the Govindpuri police station.” The four, however, could not be arrested till Saturday evening. Police said the suspects have been on the run since the crime. A FIR was registered based on the complaint of the injured man.

“When I came out, I saw two of my neighbours on the terrace with his two friends. They were all drunk. They got angry and turned abusive when I asked them why they wanted to meet my sister. One of them was shouting and threatening that he would kill my sister if she married anybody else and not him,” said the man.

Hearing the commotion, the man’s mother also arrived and asked the four to leave. When she told him to come in the morning, the miscreants started hurling abuses at her. This enraged her son who asked them to leave.

A scuffle broke out between them during which the accused allegedly took out a knife and attacked him.

The man suffered stab wounds on his left ear, chin, and right hand’s thumb. When the family members screamed for help, the attackers fled the crime scene. The local police were informed about the crime. The injured was taken to AIIMS Trauma Center from where he was discharged after treatment.
