2-year-old killed as auto rams into bus in south Delhi; parents, driver injured

The family were on their way to Anand Vihar to catch a train for their home town in Muradabad, UP. The auto driver, who was allegedly rash driving, rammed into an orange bus at Sheikh Sarai traffic signal.

A two-year-old girl was killed and three from her family hurt when an auto-rickshaw they were travelling in rammed into a city bus in south Delhi’s Sheikh Sarai area on Sunday morning.

Romil Baaniya, DCP (South-East), claimed that the auto driver was rash driving which lead to the accident.

The auto driver, who too was hurt in the accident, has been booked even as he is undergoing treatment at AIIMS trauma centre.

The girl killed in the accident has been identified as Poorvi. A native of UP’s Muradabad, she lived with her parents and five-year-old sister in Dakshinpuri, south Delhi. The family was to attend a relative’s engagement in their home town on Monday.

They had hired the auto around 6.30am to reach Anand Vihar railway station from where they were to board a train. But the relatively clear roads in the morning meant the auto driver allegedly drove the vehicle recklessly.

They were all rushed to AIIMS trauma centre where Poorvi died during treatment. The others continue to receive treatment, but are out of danger, said police.
