NEW DELHI: Four unidentified bike-borne snatchers robbed two men of Rs 80 lakh at gunpoint in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh on Thursday morning.

NEW DELHI: Four unidentified bike-borne snatchers robbed two men of Rs 80 lakh at gunpoint in west Delhi’s Punjabi Bagh on Thursday morning.

The two, nephews of a 49-year-old rice merchant Ved Prakash Gupta, were heading towards Naya Bazar in north Delhi on a scooty when the robbery took place at around 10.30am near Shakur Basti railway underpass.

Aman Gupta, 21, and Shubham, 20, had left their home to reach their uncle’s shop in Naya Bazar. “The two were carrying a bag that contained Rs 80 lakh in cash. The money was given to them by their uncle to clear the dues of other merchants dealing in food grains,” said the officer.

As they reached near Shakur Basti railway underpass, four men on two motorcycles intercepted their scooty. The pillion riders overpowered them and whipped out their pistols.

“The robbers pointed the pistols on Aman and Shubham and asked them to hand over the bag to them. When the two resisted, the robbers threatened to kill them if they raised any alarm or did not leave the bag. The victims panicked and handed over the bag to the robbers,” the officer said.

The victims returned home to inform the family members about the robbery. One of the family members called the local police and reported the crime.

A case of armed robbery was reported on their complaint. The local police station officials along with crime investigation team reached the crime scene to collect the evidence related to the crime. Investigators could not locate any CCTV camera installed close to the crime spot.

“The victims told us that they had seen the faces of the robbers. They were neither masked nor wearing helmets. Involvement of insiders behind the crime cannot be ruled out,” said the officer.
