NEW DELHI: A physical education teacher at SRCC has alleged that Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Satender Awana beat up him in the college over a rift on permission to use the swimming facility.

Vineet Mehta alleged that Awana came to the sports room on Monday and sought to meet the in-charge of the swimming pool.

“He asked for phone number of teacher in-charge, which I refused to give. He misbehaved and when I pointed that out, he abused me. He then attacked me,” Mehta said.

The college principal RP Rustagi said Awana had met him requesting permission to use the pool.

“He said he was the DUSU president and they wanted to use the pool. He asked about the charges and I told him that whatever is minimum will be charged but he should seek permission from in-charge who is also the head of sports department,” said Rustagi.

Awana refuted the charges and said, “A group of students came to me and said they cannot afford the Rs 200 per day fees for swimming pool. I met the principal to request him to allow these students to use the pool at Rs 20 per day, which is the charge for SRCC students,” he said.
