Two persons, including a police constable, died due to the heat in Hoshiarpur district of the state.

However, the summer loosened its grip a bit in the region as maximum temperatures dipped after parts of the region were swept by duststorms.

In Jammu and Kashmir, nearly 500 people were stranded when snowfall at the 11,578 feet high Zojila pass on the highway caused landslides and prompted authorities to close the road for traffic this morning.

Zojila, 100 km from New Delhi, received four to five inches of snow till this morning, the spokesman said.

The hill resort of Sonamarg, 80 km from New Delhi, which is situated on the highway, received two to three inches of snow this morning.
