2 east Delhi kids test Encephalitis positive

Two children have tested positive for Japanese Encephalitis (JE), a mosquito-borne viral disease that affects the brain, taking the number of cases to seven in the city. According to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), both the cases have been reported from east Delhi.

Sonal, 11, is a resident of Kanti Nagar area and Kishan Kumar, 4, lives in Trilokpuri. While Sonal is undergoing treatment at Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalya, Kishan has been admitted to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital.

“JE virus is multiplying in Delhi. Sonal’s case is an example of that,” said Dr VK Monga, chairman of MCD’s public health committee.

“The total count of JE cases in Delhi now stands at seven,” he said. JE, which cripples the brain and is more common in Uttar Pradesh, was reported in Delhi for the first time this year on September 21.
