The Defence Colony flyover market has everything that can attract a shopper — good eateries and several designer boutiques. But marred by poor roads, the ever-decreasing footfall has led to many of them shutting shop.

“We have been writing to the MCD for years now about this road. We were then told that it has been handed over to the PWD. We were hoping that at least now the road will be repaired, but no one has come to even inspect the road,” said Harvinder Singh, a shopkeeper.
There are 353 shops in the market. Shopkeepers claim that approximately 40% shops have shut down due to loss in business.
They also claim that traffic jams are a common occurrence due to potholed roads.
“We had taken up a shop in this market, thinking that it is a centrally located commercial market and would get more customers. But despite paying one of the highest property taxes, the civic facilities have not improved,” said Ramesh Gupta, another shopkeeper.
