The main runway of IGI airport in New Delhi became fit for operations in dense fog, using CAT-III B instrument landing system, after a new runway visibility measuring instrument was installed three days after the old one went unserviceable.

"The Runway Visual Range (RVR) measuring instrument was replaced yesterday and from Tuesday ATC is receiving the real time data about the visibility at the Dwarka side of the main runway. So now runway 28/10 has now become fit for operations in CAT-III B conditions," Director of airport Met department R K Jenamani told PTI.

But the instrument would be tested only when dense fog envelops the airport and visibility drops to zero, he said adding, the faulty cables have also been replaced.

Flight operations remained normal for the second consecutive day today as the airport witnessed a clear sky.

Flights to Shimla, Chandigarh, Patna, Leh, Guwahati were either cancelled or delayed due to poor visibility at those destinations, an airport official said.
