The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has started the process of returning the land to farmers of Shahberi. Builders have been asked to vacate the village in a week.
“The process of measurement of Shahberi land is nearing completion. Land will be returned to farmers as per court directions," GNIDA chief executive officer (CEO) Rama Raman said. "Land records of those farmers who have been returning money are being prepared, the CEO said.
On July 6, the Supreme Court had quashed the forcible acquisition of 156 hectares of land at Shahberi in Noida Extension and asked the authority to return the land to farmers.
Four farmers on Thursday deposited the compensation amount of R36 lakh.
Ten builders were allotted plots in Shahberi by the authority. Some builders had even started construction. 1400 farmers land was acquired here. Only 131 farmers had lifted the compensation. Total amount disbursed was R17 crore. Rest of the farmers had not lifted the compensation.
"However for those farmers who are unable to deposit the money authority will be lenient and will not press for it. Farmers have been however told not to start unauthorized construction or sell it to unauthorized colonizers. The area has been notified by the authority and without authority permission no construction activity can be done here," said Raman. “After giving back the Shahberi land we will start the process of acquisition under new rehabilitation policy,” said Raman.
