The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which has been directed by a trial court to conduct further probe in a 1984 anti-Sikh riots case, has contacted three witnesses who are in the United States and may send its team of officials there soon to record their statements.

The CBI may send a team to the US since one of the three witnesses contacted by the agency has categorically refused to come to India to record his statement, said a CBI source. The witnesses are Aalam Singh, Chanchal Singh and Resham Singh.
“We have contacted the witnesses who are currently in the United States to record their statement as per a court direction. Since one of them has refused the option of coming to India and, therefore, we may send a team there to record the statements,” said the source.
In April this year, the trial court had ordered the re-opening of the case, setting aside a CBI closure report.
The trial court’s order of further investigation had come on a plea by the riot victims against the CBI closure report.
