CBI honour for Pak ISI’s founder-member

The CBI will bestow posthumous honour on the first head of its British-era precursor, the Special Police Establishment (SPE), late Khan Bahadur Qurban Ali Khan who migrated to Pakistan in 1947 after Partition.

The CBI will bestow posthumous honour on the first head of its British-era precursor, the Special Police Establishment (SPE), late Khan Bahadur Qurban Ali Khan who migrated to Pakistan in 1947 after Partition.

The CBI has invited the Lahore-based grandchildren of Khan to accept the honour on his behalf on April 6 in Delhi at an event to be held to commemorate the agency’s golden jubilee celebrations. Khan was one of the founder members of Pakistan’s external spy agency, Inter Services Intelligence.

CBI has approached the ministry of external affairs for facilitating the visit of the family to Delhi. Set up in 1963, the CBI completed its 50 years on April 1.

The CBI has also renamed a part of the premises of its training academy located in Ghaziabad after Khan. The agency is likely to honour its other former directors at the event as well.

The SPE was set up to probe corruption complaints pertaining to the then War and Supply Department during the Second World War with Lahore in undivided India as its headquarters. Khan, who was the superintendent of War Department, was made the chief administrator of SPE.
