Hundreds of employees in the five district courts in the Capital went on strike on Friday demanding action against a Metropolitan Magistrate for allegedly forcing a clerk to attempt suicide.
Judicial work at Patiala House, Karkardooma, Tis Hazari, Rohini and Dwarka courts was affected due to the strike called by the Delhi District and Sessions Court Employees’ Welfare Association.
The association gave a strike call after Narender Kumar Gautam, an ‘Ahlmad’ (file keeper) at Karkardooma Courts, attempted to commit suicide on Thursday following a heated exchange with his boss over some official work. He jumped off the second floor in a fit of anger, allegedly after being threatened with action by the Metropolitan Magistrate. He is battling for his life at St. Stephen’s Hospital in North Delhi after sustaining multiple injuries.
Association’s president Rakesh Yadav said: “The police should register an FIR against the Metropolitan Magistrate, who threatened the court staff, forcing him to attempt suicide.
YAdav said Gautam had recorded a statement before the police that the Metropolitan Magistrate abused him, and asked to commit suicide if he could not work. The police refused to register an FIR against the judicial officer and instead booked Gautam for attempting to commit suicide, an offence under Section 309 of the Indian Penal Code, Yadav alleged.
