A Delhi court has issued an open non-bailable warrants against five persons who went abroad on fake travel documents by allegedly indulging in cheating the Canadian Embassy in New Delhi.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate allowed a request of the CBI to issue open non-bailable warrants against Rooh Ram, Nirmal Singh, Kewal Singh, Pritpal Singh and Tarsem, who had obtained visas allegedly through fraudulent means by conspiring with a Canadian embassy official and a travel agent.
Open non-bailable warrants are usually issued in cases where the accused are untraceable. The investigating agency is not required to furnish a report to the court within a fixed time-frame about the fate of such warrants.
The CBI had in December 2001 filed a chargesheet in the case allegedly involving Preeti Grower, an Immigration Programme Officer, Kanwaljeet Singh and Ajeet Kumar, both travel agents, invoking penal provisions of criminal conspiracy, cheating and using forged documents as genuine.
The probe agency had registered a case on January 21, 1999, against the accused on a complaint of Canada High Commission.
