Delhi families tie up with Anna

Delhiites wasted no time on a Sunday morning. They packed their bags, readied their children and headed to Ramlila Ground to spend a few hours with Anna Hazare. The tricolour and Gandhi caps added to the nationalistic fervour these families were high on.

“We encounter corruption in our daily lives and all citizens must come out of their homes and join hands in protest. The flag we are carrying is symbolic of the patriotism that every person in our family feels,” said Kishore Mehta, a businessman from Shahdara, accompanied by his wife and two children.

Even the scorching heat did not prove to be a deterrent for enthusiastic protesters, who came out in large numbers, to lend support to the movement.

“There are several thousands of us here, but if every remaining citizen chooses to come out of their homes, think of the kind of strength we can generate against corruption,” said Isha Jhaveri, a housewife, who had come to the Ramlila Ground along with her husband and father-in-law.

“We reached here at 1pm and are carrying food with us to help see us through the evening,” Hoshiyar Singh, a farmer, who had come from Haryana.
