An interstate gang of robbers who used to rob people, especially women, by offering them lifts in their vehicles has been busted, police said on Wednesday.
The west Delhi police arrested two women and a man who were part of the gang. All three are from different districts in Punjab.
With their arrests, the police claimed to have three cases of robbery registered at the Punjabi Bagh police station in west Delhi. Police said the gang was involved in over 15 cases of robbery and snatching registered in Punjab and Haryana.
Pushpendra Kumar, DCP (west), said the arrested persons are Manjeet Kaur, 35, Amar Kaur, 40 and Mahesh, 40.
“Manjeet Kaur is illiterate and belongs to a middle-class family of Punjab. She left her husband after their marriage and began living along in her house constructed over 1500 sq. yards of area. She is a habitual criminal and is involved in 16 cases of robbery and snatching. She has gathered immense wealth through criminal activities,” said Kumar.
On Sunday, one Trishna Rani Saluja, 68, was walking towards her Punjabi Bagh home when a white car with two women passengers and a driver stopped near her. One of the women offered Sajuja a lift to her home.
“When Saluja resisted, the two women caught hold of her and pulled her inside the vehicle. They removed Saluja’s bangles and were trying to snatch her money when she raised an alarm. Hearing her screams, people tried to stop the car. The driver tried to escape by driving his vehicle dangerously. The car was stopped by participants of a Satsang and during the process two of the ‘sewadars’ were injured,” said Kumar. The three were held and handed over to the police.
