Delhi prefers oral contraception to condoms.

According to the latest Delhi government survey among sexually active people in the national capital, 94,76,000 people used condoms in the year 2008-09 as compared to 1,23,77,000 people in 2006-07.
The dipping numbers of people using condoms hint at rise in the number of people who prefer oral pills as a contraceptive measure.
“If we look at the numbers then it maybe said that people in Delhi are relying more on pills. However, a substantial number of people are still using condoms,” said a senior official in the state health department.
The comparative data of the last two years that has been collected across more than 20 Delhi government-run hospitals, its health centres and even prominent pharmacies in the city, shows a rise of more than 50 per cent in the demand for oral pills among Delhiites.
“It clearly indicates an increase in the level of awareness regarding contraception among the population of the city. People are being careful about unwanted pregnancies, which in effect would mean decline in the number of abortions as well. It is a positive sign,” said the official.
