An engineering student died in mysterious circumstances at the Jaypee Institute of information Technology (JIIT) at Sector 62, Noida on Tuesday night.

On Wednesday, students held a protest at the college gate and alleged the student died of electrocution. The college management denied the charge.
“Around 8.30 p.m. on Tuesday, Rahul Dhamija, a IIIrd year B.Tech student, was found lying face down in stagnant water near the parking area. There was waterlogging of over four inches in the area due to heavy rains. His mouth and nose were in water. It appeared he accidentally fell there and became unconscious,” Manoj Bhardwaj, Chief Administrative Manager, JIIT said.
Around 300 students protested outside the college gate on Wednesday. Around 12.40 p.m., vice-chancellor (V-C) J.P. Gupta told the students that the warden had resigned. This did not pacify the students and they said that nothing other than expulsion would be accepted.
The V-C promised to form a committee to look into their allegations after which the agitation was called off.
