Facebook helps police nab lawyer who made hoax call

A Facebook profile helped Delhi Police nab a Tamil Nadu-based lawyer, who had made a hoax call last Tuesday about a bomb on a Patna-bound IndiGo aircraft as he was late for the flight. Investigation after the hoax revealed that a passenger had not turned up for the flight and started looking for him.

After taking his details from the airline, the police searched his Facebook profile and found his address, mobile number and photo. It turned out to be the same number from which he had made a call to the police control room about the bomb.

The police took down his wife’s details from the profile and contacted her. She helped the police in tracing him.

The culprit, 33-year-old Pramod S Elongan, was arrested from Bihar’s Danapur Cantonment, where his wife is employed. “He is a resident of Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu and a member of the Madras Bar Association and had gone to Panipat. While returning, he got late and made the hoax call,” a senior Delhi Police officer said. He has been brought to Delhi on transit remand.

The police had tried the number from which the call was made, but the phone was switched off. Finally, they asked the airline to provide the details of passengers who did not turn up for the flight.
