‘Family courts to build bonds, not to break ties’

To resolve family disputes in an amicable manner, two new family courts have been inaugurated at the Saket Court Complex by the Delhi high court chief justice Dipak Misra.

Speaking on the occasion on Friday, he said the cause for creation of such courts is to build families rather than break families.

He also commended the disposal rate of pending cases. “Pendency of 11,600 cases in February 2010 has been reduced to almost 3,500 cases.”.

The family courts would become functional from June 4. The jurisdiction of the courts would be related to south and southeast Delhi. Moreover, a family court journal “Harmony” was also released with an objective to let the readers know and understand the concept of such courts.

“This journal shows how these courts are different from the other courts, the method and tools and approaches adopted by the family court judges for resolution of conflict in a family,” said Kamlesh Kumar additional principal judge, family courts, Rohini. He said these courts are away from the intimidating atmosphere of regular courts and ensure a congenial environment to deal with matters such as marriage, divorce, alimony and child custody.
