Congress on Wednesday said the government's decision to allow 100% FDI in single-brand retail was "in the interest" of the country.

Terming the decisioin as "constructive and in the interest" of the nation", party spokesperson Manish Tewari hoped some other related issues on which political and ideological consenus could not emerge earlier will also be resolved.
He was apparently alluding to the issue of opening multi-brand retail to FDI, which could not see the light of the day owing to stiff opposition from various parties includings UPA ally Trinamool Congress.
"FDI in retail is in the interest of the nation. The decision to open multi-brand retail to FDI could not be taken as a political consensus could not emerge on it.
Allowing 100% retail in single-brand retail is a constructive step. We hope the issues on which a political and ideological consenus could not emerge earlier will also be resolved," Tewari said.
