Delhi government’s transport department has started issuing permits to radio taxis to ply in Ghaziabad.

With the counter-signing of these permits by the road transport officer of Ghaziabad, radio taxis will move seamlessly between Delhi and the satellite town.

“We will counter-sign permits of two radio taxis on Thursday. With the signing of the permit, these taxis will not have to pay any tax on the border to enter Ghaziabad or while going back to Delhi,” said Lalji Chaudhary, regional transport officer, Ghaziabad.

This will specially benefit people reaching Delhi airport and railway station on their way to the NCR town.

These taxis will have a special logo, which will prove that the taxis have the permit to ply within the National Capital Region.

Though Delhi government had signed a reciprocal common transport agreement (RCTA) with neighbouring states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan for seamless movement of passenger vehicles in the NCR in January 2009, it is only now that radio taxis have started applying for the permit under this scheme.
