Govt, NHAI split on new toll plaza

The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Wednesday asked the Haryana government and the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to sort out their differences over construction cost of the split toll plaza, which has been proposed on the Gurgaon Expressway near the Delhi-Gurgaon border.

The court was responding to a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a local industrialist Aseem Takyar. He brought to the court's notice inconvenience being faced by the public on account of closure of a peripheral road linking Udyog Vihar, Huda City and Palam Vihar colonies by the Gurgaon Expressway firm DSC Limited.

The residents wanted that the closed road be opened for traffic as 12,000-15,000 vehicles emerge from these colonies daily. If this road is opened, residents said, they can skip the traffic jams on the toll plaza. They also said they are ready to pay toll tax. The residents wanted the split plaza to come up on the peripheral road near the main toll plaza. DSC Limited had closed the road as it was affecting its revenue.

The division bench issued directions to NHAI, Haryana State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation (HSIIDC), Public Works Department of Haryana, Gurgaon police and DSC Limited to jointly work out a solution.
