HC summons AIIMS chief for not giving space

In a setback to All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Delhi High Court has summoned its director, as the institution held back space allocated to a trust, which would provide medicines at subsidized rate to poor patients.

Marking the delay as an important issue, a division bench headed by Sanjay Kishan Kaul asked the central government to find a place within the AIIMS premises for the allotment to Surekha Public Charity Trust.

The court also directed the top boss of the medical facility to be present before it on September 30 and explain the reasons for the delay in allotting the space.

Earlier, the court had said, “If space can be allotted to existing barber shops, tailor shops and beauty parlours, certainly a space or spaces can be allotted for such charitable purpose.”

The Bench had directed the Ministry of Health to frame a proper policy in consultation with AIIMS for making available a space for such a charitable purpose within a maximum period of three months.
