A day after Hindustan Times carried a report on corrupt policemen guarding the President and other VIP's, the Home Ministry has directed the Delhi Police to conduct an inquiry and send a report to it.
The Home Ministry asked the Delhi Police Commissioner to send the report with details of the accused policemen, who they are presently guarding and on what circumstances these security personnel have been deployed in such duties.
The report from the Delhi Police is expected within a week, official sources said.
Media reports today claimed that in the past four years alone, 4,603 policemen have been booked on various corruption charges in Delhi and many of them are being deployed to guard VIPs and even the first citizen of the country — the President.
Altogether 38 policemen at the President's House and 32 in the security unit of Delhi Police are facing various corruption charges, it said.
Almost 90 per cent of these policemen were posted in the Delhi Police's traffic wing, the report said.
The police said the President's House security is considered as a "non-sensitive posting" and so, chances of them indulging in corruption are less.
