Amid reports of heightened infighting in its Kerala unit following the Lavalin corruption case, the CPI(M) Politburo on Saturday discussed the issue with both Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and the accused in the case, state unit Secretary Pinarayi Vijayan.

Ahead of the meeting, Achuthanandan met his other Politburo colleagues including those from West Bengal and Tripura and is understood to have briefed them about the present status of the case.
Vijayan is attending the meeting in New Delhi Besides the political situation and the ensuing general elections, the Politburo is likely to give final touches to a 'rectification programme', to be carried among all its leaders and cadre to check growing instances of "corruption, consumerism and obscurantism" in its ranks.
Under the programme, the party leadership would circulate a questionnaire among all members, from top to the bottom, seeking information about their income, its source, lifestyle, caste, religion and even details like how they got married.
The programme comes up for implementation at a time when the party has been hit hard by the SNC Lavalin graft case in which Politburo member Vijayan is an accused.
