Miscreants go looting in police car

Three miscreants not only went on a looting spree in a stolen Delhi Police Gypsy, beacon light atop, in Gurgaon but also gave police sleeplessness as the incident was mistakenly correlated with the firing reported at Delhi airport, reports Sanjeev K Ahuja.

Till Friday morning before two of the miscreants were nabbed, Gurgaon police officials were assuming that those who had opened fire at the airport the same day, had hijacked the Gypsy and could possibly launch a Mumbai-type massacre.

“Soon after receiving information of the theft at 3 a.m. on Friday, we ordered the barricading of the entire city thinking that the vehicle had been hijacked by those who had opened fire at the Delhi airport. We launched our entire machinery to ensure that the vehicle did not cross Gurgaon borders,” said Gurgaon Police Commissioner Mohinder Lal.

Gurgaon police, however, recovered the Gypsy (DL 1CH 2371) after a drawn-out hunt. The car was stolen from outside a crime branch inspector’s house in Palam Vihar on Thursday evening.

Though sources said that the trio had committed three incidents of snatching using the Gypsy, Lal confirmed just one. “The carjackers robbed a woman of her golden ornaments in the Kherki Daula police station area. We are not aware of other incidents as we are still to interrogate them,” he added.

Police have made the Gypsy a property of evidence in the case of snatching on the statement of the affected woman.
