No proof of foul play in Fiza’s death: Police

“So far, we have not got any evidence of foul play. The post-mortem conducted on Bali’s body showed there were no external injury marks,” said Mohali senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar.

He said the cause of Fiza’s death would be known only after the viscera report came in. “We will probe all the angles.”

Fiza’s decomposed body was found at her home here on Monday. According to a source privy to the investigation, police are also looking into the possibility of drug overdose having caused Fiza’s death.

Police suspect Fiza, 41, a former assistant advocate general of Haryana, died between 10pm and 4am on the intervening night of August 1 and 2.

Police have sent the eatables and liquor found in Fiza’s house for chemical examination.

Fiza had married Chander Mohan, son of Haryana politician Bhjan Lal, in 2008. Before their marriage, Chander Mohan had disappeared suddenly and resurfaced with Fiza by his side. The two had converted to Islam and she had taken the name Fiza. Their marriage had lasted only 40 days and created such a furore that Chander Mohan was forced to resign. Later, Fiza had charged Chander Mohan with rape.

Fiza, who lived alone, had attempted suicide in 2009.

Her family cremated her in accordance with Hindu rites. Fiza’s uncle Satpal, who lit the pyre, said, “The family decided to cremate her.” Fiza’s sisters Monika and Aditi, their two maternal aunts and close family friends attended the cremation.

Chander Mohan, who had changed his name to Chand Mohammed when he married Fiza, recently buried his differences with his brother Kuldeep Bishnoi and joined the Haryana Janhit Congress.
