Open land in CR park, GK II to be converted into homes
Residents of CR Park and GK II may soon lose one of its open grounds to the south corporation which is planning to build an officer’s residential quarters near Gurudwara Singh Sabha. HT reports.
Residents of CR Park and GK II may soon lose one of its open grounds to the south corporation which is planning to build an officer’s residential quarters near Gurudwara Singh Sabha.
According to the plan, the commissioner’s quarters will also come up on the land measuring 11,500 square metres belonging to the civic body. The land, at present, is used to host marriages, religious functions and Diwali melas.
Bringing up the matter at the House meeting of the corporation on Friday, Virender Kasana, councillor from CR Park asked the BJP ruled south corporation to avoid “grabbing land” from the residents of the area.
He said the Resident Welfare Associations of the area have opposed the move as the designated space is the only vacant land in the locality.
Kasana also criticised the BJP for passing the plan of building a residential quarter under “redevelopment of existing MCD flats” whereas the space is vacant.
“You can ‘redevelop’ an area only when you had developed it in the past. Since it was always an open ground, how can one use the word redevelopment?” Kasana said.
He claimed the officer’s housing scheme can only be implemented when the land use is changed on the space.
