Police oppose Vikas Yadav’s bail plea to attend wedding

The Delhi Police has opposed the bail plea of Vikas Yadav, serving life imprisonment for killing Nitish Katara in 2002, in the Delhi High Court saying he might escape if allowed to get out of jail and attend sister Bharati’s wedding, reports HT Correspondent.

Vikas, also been convicted in the Jessica Lal murder case, had approached the court seeking permission to attend the wedding on November 1.

“There would be more than two thousand people attending the marriage and the ceremony is spreading over Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. We have a serious apprehension that he might escape, as it would be difficult for us keep an eye on each visitor,” the Delhi Police told the court here.

Vikas, son of controversial Uttar Pradesh politician D.P. Yadav, has said that he has the right to maintain family ties despite being in jail and should be allowed interim bail.

“We do not know who are the people attending the marriage and a section of them might take him away even when the convict is released on custodial parole. We can’t control and put restrictions on their events,” the police said.
