Education: BA (Pass) from Delhi University’s Shyamlal College.

Political career: Entered student politics in 1971. Fought and won elections first time from Nand Nagari as a Municipal Councillor. Has not lost since. Has the distinction of having been both Standing Committee Chairman and leader of the house in MCD, a feat never achieved or repeated by anyone. Became MLA in 2003. Elected Delhi Congress president in 2005. “I constructed the Delhi Congress headquarters at DDU Marg within a year of becoming president. Two major flyovers were constructed and work for one has started in my constituency,” he said.

Family: Wife Shobha Sharma is a homemaker. They have two sons and a daughter.

Cars: Travels in his Ambassador car. Other family members have their own cars.
