Rape victim commits suicide at police HQ

A woman committed suicide in front of her two daughters by consuming pesticide at the Haryana Police Headquarters, accusing the Rohtak police of protecting two cops who had allegedly raped her on April 10, says Rajesh Moudgil.

A woman on Monday committed suicide in front of her two daughters by consuming pesticide at the Haryana Police Headquarters, accusing the Rohtak police of protecting two cops who had allegedly raped her on April 10.

The woman, frustrated with the callousness of the police, consumed celphos tablets before entering the office of ADGP (law and order) VB Singh with her plea seeking action against Head Constable Balraj Singh and Constable Silak Ram. This was her second visit to the headquarters in as many weeks.

She was rushed to hospital, where she died, In a suicide note, she alleged Balraj and Silak raped here after summoning her to the station in connection with motorcycle theft case against her husband.

She wrote that even after she lodged a complaint with the police and identified the accused in a parade, they weren’t arrested. Cops also threatened her to withdraw her complaint, she alleged.
