'School fee hiked on basis of teacher student's ratio'

The Directorate of Education, Delhi, today informed the High Court that the department's decision to allow the schools to hike fee and charge arrears is based on pupil-teacher ratio in different schools.

Filing an affidavit, the Directorate said "there are schools where teacher-pupil ratio is as low as 1:10 while there are some which keep a ratio of 1:30, therefore, the number of employees too varies from school to school".

The department said the aggrieved parents were asked to file their representations to the Grievance Redressal Committee.

Submitting the report of S L Bansal committee, set up by the government to look into the fee hike issue, the department said the decision was based on this report and said the financial statement of the schools were examined wherever a complaint was made.

Denying the allegations levelled by the parents' association that the concerned officers did not inspect the schools; the affidavit said the Director has inspected schools and action is taken against those who are found indulging in financial irregularities.
