Tata to HC: Low floor buses aren't 'sub-standard'

"We have a reputation and we are not a fly-by-night company. The buses supplied to the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) are not sub-standard. The allegation levelled is baseless," advocate Rajeev Nayar, appearing for the company, said before a bench headed by Justice A K Sikri.

He was responding to the allegation that the manufacturers had failed to comply with safety standards, resulting in incidents of buses catching fire.

Senior counsel Kailash Vasudev, assisting the court as amicus curiae, had submitted that low-floor buses were unsafe and the transport department should restrain from acquiring them.

He alleged that officials of the transport department have failed to verify whether the bus manufacturers complied with the safety norms before supplying them.
