Even a traffic policeman isn’t safe on the bloodied streets of Delhi. On Saturday night, a speeding Toyota Corolla knocked down a traffic policeman, seriously injuring him, and managed to flee. Three policemen, who were with the victim, could not even note down the number of the car.

The victim, Vinod Kumar, was on duty with inspector Naval Kishore and two other constables when he was knocked down by the unidentified car near the Boat Club police post. “At around 11.40 p.m. we saw a speeding car, may be a Corolla, that had jumped the red light and was trying to enter the no-entry zone towards India Gate. Vinod Kumar tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver sped on, knocking him down,” said Kishore.
The inspector said they missed out on the number of the vehicle as they had rushed to the aid of their colleague. The victim was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital with severe head and limb injuries.
Later, the police picked up three youths in a white Corolla car from the Shastri Bhavan area. Nothing was found against them. “We have not made any arrests yet,” said Ajay Kashyap, Joint CP, New Delhi Range.
