Samajwadi Party leaders Mulayam Singh Yadav and Amar Singh, LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad met at the latter's residence to discuss their future strategy after the Congress emphasised that it should include only pre-poll allies in government formation.
The three parties had contested the Lok Sabha elections separately from the Congress. "We are with secular forces. We are not for power," Amar Singh told reporters after the late night strategy session of the three parties.
Just before the Fourth Front meeting, Yadav and Amar Singh had met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh apparently to discuss their role in the new government.
Earlier in the day, the SP general secretary had made clear the party's keenness to support Congress but said that it would depend on what the UPA wants.
Sources said there was a general view within Congress that Samajwadi Party, which had been a difficult ally, should be kept out, although it has 23 seats.
