Woman burnt to death for dowry in Greater Noida

A 22-year-old woman was allegedly set on fire by her husband’s family at Dadri area on Sunday evening. She succumbed to her burn injuries on Monday at a hospital in Delhi, police said, adding that her father has lodged a dowry death case against her husband and in-laws.

The deceased, Lalita was married to Ghodi Bach-heda resident A Sharma last year. On Sunday, her in-laws allegedly poured kerosene on her and set her on fire.

“Her father Pyare Lal has alleged that Lalita’s in-laws were demanding Rs 5 lakh and a motorcycle. Lal said that since he could not pay them the money, they killed his daughter,” said Ambesh Tyagi, deputy superintendent of police.

The accused were absconding till late evening, the deputy superintendent of police added.

In another incident, a woman caught fire accidentally on Sunday night in Noorpur village. She was admitted to a private hospital. The victim has suffered 20% burns.

Meanwhile, 19-year-old Anju Devi allegedly tried to commit suicide by consuming poisonous pills in Noida.
