Women groups up in arms against Noida honour killings

Raksha Shukla of All India Women’s Conference said, “We will draw attention of the National Commission for Women.”

Mahila Shakti Samiti, an NGO, said the killings cannot be justified. “We appeal to girls (who wish to elope fearing refusal from family) to contact us for help,” Samiti president Rupa Gupta said.

NCW member in-charge of Delhi-NCR Yasmin Abrar said she has sought a report from the Noida police. “Once I have the details, my team and I would go there,” Abrar said.

Ranjana Kumari from Women’s Power Connect objected to the term “honour killing”. “Before anyone asks, what are the women’s groups doing, my question is what are the people of Noida and Greater Noida doing,” she said.

Brinda Karat of All India Democratic Women’s Association criticised the political parties for keeping quiet to save their vote banks.”

One accused Sonu Pal has been arrested in the case following complaint by the father of one of the victims.
