grassroots where the awareness levels of women with respect to the law and the rights they are entitled to is very low, Abrar, who took over on Friday after the completion of the tenure of Girija Vyas, told Hindustan Times.

The skewed sex ratio in the less-than-six-year-old infants will be another challenge. My experience in the commission in the last six years has not been good in this particular aspect. We have been trying our best but clearly much more needs to be done. And in order to raise awareness levels and the level of implementation and monitoring, we have set up a committee that will keep an eye on the implementation of the various schemes in all the states. This committee which has nine members at present will be expanded to include representatives from the various ministries, corporate, NGOs, lawyers and from all the states. The rising crime against women will form another focus.
