12 online courses for mechanical engineers

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers is set to launch 12 online courses for students and working engineers

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is planning to launch its virtual India campus with online courses for students and working engineers next month. In the first phase, it will offer 12 tutor-led courses on engineering design and engineering management.

Courses lined up for the first phase are:

Engineering design
n Drawing interpretation
n Basic geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
n Advanced geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
n Introduction to finite element analysis (FEA) – basic level
n Finite element analysis (FEA) – advanced level
n Computer aided design (CAD) & manufacturing – basic level

Engineering management
n Planning and adjusting business strategies
n Developing products, services and processes
n Leading individuals and engineering project teams
n Financial resources and procurement
n Marketing and sales
n Engineering maintenance, operations and change

The first session is slated to start on September 14 this year. Aspirants can enrol online from anywhere in India. The six-week online courses would include weekly materials, online discussion boards and quizzes, and access to a subject matter expert, says Jackie Oppenheim, Director, ASME Training and Development.

ASME has active student sections at IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, BITS Pilani, BITS Pilani Goa Campus, VIT

Vellore and PSG Coimbatore.
