The first cut-off list in Delhi University has set alarm bells ringing among CBSE toppers who were hoping to sail through the admissions. Now, students who have scored high between 90 to 93 per cent are unsure about making it in the first list.

Also, in general, this raises questions about the future of good performers who score between 80 to 90 per cent. This year's statistics indicate that 2,876 students who scored 90 per cent and above applied for subjects like BA Programme, BA (Vocational), BA (H), BCom (P) and BCom (H).

About 926 such students applied for BA (H) Maths, BSc (H) Stats, BSc (H) Computer Science. For BSc (H) in physics, maths, electronics, chemistry, instrumentation, and BSc in physical science and applied physical science, 91 students sought admission.

"We are expecting the cut-offs in the second list to drop between 1 to 2 per cent," said a DU official. But some college principals like SRCC's PC Jain felt that there may be no second cut-off list in their colleges.

This is not surprising considering that last year, most courses were full in the first cut-off list itself.
