Over 151,070 students cleared the matriculation or Class 10 compartmental and special examinations conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB), results of which were announced on Wednesday.

Out of the 231,962 candidates, who appeared in the compartmental exam, 64.53% or 149,703 passed. Last year, the pass percentage was 27.49%.
“For the first time in the history of BSEB, the results of the compartmental examination have been declared within 23 days after the examination. The examination was conducted between July 27 and 31, this year. Last year, the results were declared on December 22,” said BSEB chairperson Anand Kishor.
“Even before, in the year 2015, 2014, the results were declared in the month of October while in 2013 it was declared on November. This could be possible because of computerisation system in the board, that was introduced this year,” he added.
The compartmental exam was conducted between November 10 and 12 last year.
Of the 149,703 candidates, 4234 passed with a first division, 88,309 with second and 57,123 with third division. Not more than 20 candidates were expelled during the examination for using unfair means.
A special examination was also conducted for the first time by the BSEB for those who could not fill the registration form and did not appear in the main intermediate examination.

A total of 1379 students took this exam, out of which 410 passed making a total pass percentage of 29.73%. Out of 1379 who passed, 69 got the first division, 201 second division and 140 third division.
Students were able to appear in the compartmental examination for two papers from this year. Earlier, they could appear in any one paper.
Kishor said candidates can apply for a scrutiny for the compartmental and special exams for both matriculation and intermediate or Class 12 board between August 28 and September 1 online and off-line (in the regional office of BSEB) with a fee of Rs 70. The result of scrutiny will be declared by the end of September.
The board has also decided to take strict action from 2018 against subject teachers, principals, and all officials if the performance of the students at their school is poor..
