I am a Class 12 student in the medical stream. Please suggest ways to maximise my score in mathematics. I want to go abroad for higher education and become a surgeon or do research in biochemistry. Kindly guide me.

There is no alternative to hard work to get good marks in your exams. While I am sure that’s exactly what you are doing, you must ensure that your study routine is focused. This means that you set yourself a strict time-table and concentrate on one subject at a time, making notes and revising as you go along. Focus more on clearing your fundamentals, before moving on to the depths of a particular topic.
In case you feel you do not understand a certain concept, do not hesitate to ask your teachers or friends. Also keep a check on your progress by taking sectional tests. Sectional tests help you fine tune your preparation, manage time better and, identify your weakness. Whatever you do, do not get stressed. Take time out for yourself.
If you are interested in a career in the field of biochemistry, it would be advisable to consider a BSc in biochemistry study programme in India, followed by a master’s degree in the specialised field of your choice abroad. In this way, you would acquire some basic knowledge and understanding of biochemistry and the various areas of work that you can take up in this field. Then you can spend your postgraduation study on a focused programme in the country of your choice. There are several fields open to students of biochemistry. If you are interested in the medical field you can go into medical disciplines such as pharmacy, biotechnology, and paramedical sciences.

So, while it may be difficult and expensive to get into medicine or a good bachelors degree abroad, a PG course may be more appropriate, with the possibility of earning a scholarship.

I have completed my Class 12 exams from Bihar Board in the arts stream. If I score 70% marks, will I get admission in Delhi University (DU), in general category?

Delhi University is a public Central university located in Delhi, and admits students from all over the country and abroad too. Central universities like DU, and Institutions of National Importance admit students on an all-India basis. So you can apply for admission to DU from Bihar too.
However, since students from all over the country compete on merit for seats in DU colleges, cut-offs can be very high. You have not mentioned which arts subject you wish to apply for, but given the cut-offs prevalent over the last couple of years, it does seem unlikely that you will get admission into any college in DU with 70%.
However, there are many other good universities where the cut-offs may not be so high. State universities such as those in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai and West Bengal reserve 15% of seats for students from other states.
