According to the notification, the National Eligibility Test will be conducted on November 5 and the application process starts on August 11. The last date for applying online is September 11, while the fee can be paid until September 12.

The CBSE has decided to use Aadhaar authentication for the applicants at the time of applying for the November examination.

The CBSE conducts the exam on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of assistant professor in Indian universities and colleges or for both Junior Research Fellowship and assistant professor.

The UGC issued a statement recently, saying that changes have been introduced in the qualifying criteria for the NET.

According to a statement, the criteria for UGC-NET exam involved qualifying top 15% of those candidates in each subject and category, who obtained the minimum required marks in paper-I, paper-II and paper-III according to the category of the candidates.

However, the UGC maintained as such the number of candidates who would qualify in the future NET examinations is likely to increase. In June 2015, 4.83% students qualified out of those who appeared, in December 2015 4.96%, July 2016 it was 4.08%, January this year 3.99% and in future it will be 6%.
