According to a notification issued earlier this month on the official website for the exam, the National Eligibility Test will be conducted on November 5 and candidates can start applying for it from August 1. The application process will continue until August 30 and the last date to pay the fee is August 31.

The CBSE conducts the exam on behalf of the University Grants Commission (UGC) twice in a year to determine the eligibility of candidates for the post of assistant professor in Indian universities and colleges or for both Junior Research Fellowship and assistant professor. However, the July round has been skipped this year.

The UGC issued a statement earlier this month, saying that changes have been introduced in the qualifying criteria for the NET.

According to the statement, the criteria for UGC-NET exam involved qualifying top 15% of those candidates in each subject and category, who obtained the minimum required marks in paper-I, paper-II and paper-III according to the category of the candidates.

“Subsequent to the orders of the high court of Kerala, University Grants Commission had revised the procedure and criteria for qualifying candidates and as such it has been decided that 6% of the total candidates who appear in the UGC-NET examination will be declared qualified,” it said.
