Centre to open more KVs by 2012

The Centre proposes to open nearly 1,000 Kendriya Vidyalayas in the country during the 11th Five Year Plan, HRD Minister Arjun Singh said here.

This was announced at a function held yesterday to honour 48 KV teachers with incentive awards.

Lauding the role of the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan in empowering women, Singh said 46 women bagged prizes out of a total of 48 incentive awards and 14 national awards.

Singh, who is also the Chairman of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, said incentive awards should also be given to the non-teaching staff of KVs.

The next decade would be of secondary education in which the role of KVs would definitely be a pace-setter, the Secretary, School Education and Literacy, Champak Chatterjee said.

The Commissioner of KVS, Rangalal Jamuda spoke on the overall achievements of Kendriya Vidyalayas in academic as well as co-academic fields.
