Aspirants who get into Delhi University in regular courses also have a lot of options to pursue various certificate courses, which helps open a plethora of career options for them.
There are interesting courses like sports marketing and web journalism, office management and secretarial courses, disability and human rights among several others, which the student can pursue along with the regular course.
The completion of courses varies at different colleges and centres. It normally extends for a period of three months to six months.
The Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC) of the university offers five different certificate courses in Sign Language Interpretation, Communicative English, Information and Communicative Technology, Disability and Human Rights and News Reading and Cinematography.
“Students are divided into groups and classes are usually held in the evenings,” said Bipin Tewari, the officer on special duty EOC.
The next batch of certificate courses will begin once the college starts and is for five months. The courses are offered twice a year from August to December and January to May.
However, the course certificate in Communication and Information Technology is only open to students with physical disability, as the course is designed to enable participants to develop basic skills in communication and information through the use of computers.

{{/usCountry}}The fee for all the courses ranges from Rs. 1000 to Rs. 2000. Only the News Reading and Cinematography courses cost RS. 10,000.
Sports Marketing and Web Journalism is offered at Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College. The course is of three months and the college admits 40 students. In Sports Economics and Marketing, students will learn about designing international sporting events, international broadcasting rights, brand endorsement, working of advertising agencies and several other aspects.
“There are two types of certificate courses at DU. One is at the university level, the other in colleges,” said Gurpreet Singh Tuteja, deputy dean students’ welfare.
Clarity on dyslexia
DU has notified that out of the 3% reservation for people with disability, 1% would be for those with visual impairment, 1% for those with hearing impairment and 1% for people with locomotor disability and cerebral palsy, including dyslexia.
