Delhi University has taken a batch of 900 students to Haryana and Punjab on board the Gyanodaya Express, its trademark educational train. The journey was flagged off on September 2 at Safdarjung Railway Station, New Delhi, by Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, minister of state for railways.
On its week-long journey that will end on September 8, students will travel to Amritsar, Ludhiana, Chandigarh and Kurukshetra to study Punjab’s entrepreneurial spirit. The train is equipped with a library and has internet-enabled coaches.
The scheduled visits include a trip to villages in Punjab to study the state’s success with industrial units, exports and agriculture. The students from DU are joined by 120 students and faculty members from King’s College, London and University of Edinburgh, Scotland.
The students (from DU) include members of NSS, NCC, winners of Antardhvani cultural festival, differently-abled students and students from the School of Open Leaning and Non-Collegiate Women's Education Board, etc. This is the third edition of the Gyanodaya Express educational sojourn.
Students will learn about the history of the Golden Temple, Jallianwala Bagh, Jalandhar Handloom Industry, Chandigarh's architectural marvels and the Wagah Border.
The trip is being supported by the Indian railways and the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation.
