Design your own automobile

Over the next one year, engineering students in the country will be busy designing and building automobiles, to compete in ?Baja?, launched by the Society of Automobile Engineers India in the Capital on Friday.

Over the next one year, engineering students in the country will be busy designing and building automobiles, to compete in ‘Baja’, launched by the Society of Automobile Engineers (SAE) India in the Capital on Friday.As part of this competition, the students will design and build an off-road vehicle that will be safe and survive the test of rough terrain. After an initial screening that will restrict the number of teams to 25, the students will be expected to develop a vehicle.They would also have to generate financial support for their project. Each team’s goal is to design and build a prototype of a rugged single seat, off road recreational four-wheel vehicle.The competition consists of a total of 1000 points spread over different static and dynamic tests like mechanical design, engineering and sales presentation. “The goal of this competition is to provide students with a platform to showcase their talent,” said Dr Pawan Goenka, president SAE India. The finals of the competition will be held from December 21-23, 2007.
